The Peroneal muscles are located on the outside of each leg, they allow the foot to turn out and provide stability to the ankle. Peroneal tendon is attached to the outside of the ankle and often become injured due to overuse of the peroneal muscles.
What causes Peroneal Tendonitis?
There are several different factors which cause Peroneal Tendonitis, including:
- Sudden increase in weight bearing activities eg running, walking, jogging and jumping
- Unsupportive footwear
- Muscular imbalance
- Poor lower limb biomechanics
- Pervious ankle sprains and incomplete rehabilitation
What are the Symptoms?
- Pain over outside of the ankle
- Pain during activities
- Increasing pain when turning foot in and/or out
- Joint instability
- Tender to touch, red, warm or swollen

A variety of test will be performed by the Sports Therapist to determine a true diagnosis.
